Dramatic Christmas Time

(August 11th 2019)

While we in Germany are talking about possible power outages and subsequent scenarios, our sanctuary has already been hit. The power supply had failed since Thursday, November 24, 2022 and did not recover until December 4, 2022. Our complete water supply depends on an electric water pump. If this fails, we have no drinking water for the dogs, no water to cook the dog food, no drinking water for us and no water to wash the dog blankets or for personal hygiene. In addition, the freezers failed and our entire supply of meat for the dogs was no longer refrigerated. The weather conditions made it even more difficult for us to look for dry firewood when it was raining - to at least cook the raw meat in advance - is hardly possible. We are already fighting in hell for sheer survival...

Dita's mobile phone had a defect a few weeks ago, it can no longer be charged. The contact between me and the sanctuary broke off for a few days. She got an old cell phone from her sister, which only works to a limited extent. And now this: it seems as if we no longer have reception at our dog yard. We assume that either a radio mast is broken or maybe even taken out of service due to the tense situation regarding energy prices and inflation. When it comes to pure desperation, we've come to the end of the road already... :-(

We have to change the feeding of the dogs to only dry food according to the situation. The prices for the meat have risen again, the quality of the cornmeal has fallen sharply. Deliveries are too often difficult to predict, fail and are delayed several times, which not only means time pressure for us, but also additional costs. We urgently need support from loved ones who can help us through this difficult time!!!

I can see that many animal welfare associations here in Europe are not doing particularly well, and that support is being asked for more everywhere. But what I can't take is when people in these associations complain about a "lack of" willingness to help, but they invest money in club clothing with their own logo on it. It all costs money and this money does not go to the animals that you actually want to help!? I am aware that you want to expand with such "advertising measures" and reach more people, but it remains the case that the money for such (in my opinion unnecessary) funds do NOT reach the animals. There are complaints that a single post on Facebook was "only" clicked 1900 times in an hour. Our entire posts don't have that many clicks, even if I count them all together.

Donation-Link:

On November 5th I had prepared a small package for Dita, a package with 2 first aid kits, 2 tie down straps and a DVD in which I hid a debit card. I had to create another online bank account because the validity of the bank card that Dita has been using for more than 3 years to withdraw the money on site expires at the end of December 2022. From January 2023 she will no longer be able to withdraw money from my secondary account for the kennel. Paypal has too many service fees, so withdrawing money with a bank card is the cheapest alternative for us. So far, however, the package has not arrived in Brazil. In order to avoid a complete failure or additional costs, I had Dita withdraw all the money I had put aside for my next trip to Brazil before the bank card expired and the debit card in the package didn’t reach her either.

Our nerves are on edge, we no longer ask ourselves how to proceed, we now KNOW that we simply do NOT know how to proceed. We would like to have more reach, and more people who can support us, are at the same time very grateful for the few people who already support us, and hope that this support will not disappear.

Dita has been doing very badly in the last few weeks, I'm worried that no one can understand. Our project is in great danger! I have spent years educating myself to find the best possible way to help the dogs and Dita and Jade. At first I thought there would be more support, also in terms of animal protection organizations, which I have written to several times, asking for help and asking for ideas. But it's useless, every club prefers to be on its own. It's not about animal welfare there, it's about the association itself. It's nice that there are animal welfare clubs, but it's just as daunting to see that people only help each other if they can make a profit for their own club . That's where it starts for associations to slowly drift away from the big goal of "helping all animals" and turn into a rescue operation for the club itself. There is real competition for donations and members. You don't see that as an outsider or member, you only see it when you're in a situation like me and trying everything humanly possible to help animals yourself.
